By Belize Live News Staff: An officer on patrol in Orange Walk Town on Friday evening saw a small white object hit the ground.
Police say the mobile was passing a restaurant on Progress Street around 7:20pm when an officer spotted a man coming out of a lane that leads to a well known drug base. As they watched, he tossed something onto the ground about two feet from where he stood.
Officers stopped and searched him. He was clean.
Asked what he had thrown, he said nothing.
So the officer walked him back to the spot and searched the ground. There it was, a small transparent plastic bag holding a white powdery substance.
At the station it weighed 0.23 grams of suspected cocaine. It was sealed in a labelled envelope in his presence, and he signed off on it.
Jamid Apolinar Patt, a labourer of San Narciso Village in the Corozal District, was charged with possession of controlled drugs the same night.
Dropping it did not help.
