Miss Belize currently sits 5th in Round 1 of the Miss World People’s Choice Award, and the platform she carries into the competition is dental care.
Edgar is training to be a dentist and founded Smiles for Belize, a programme built around accessible oral care in communities that have little of it.
The reasoning behind it is grounded in what she saw here at home. Children who covered their mouths when they smiled. Families who had to weigh dental pain against groceries.
Smiles for Belize works with schools, local health professionals and organisations including UNICEF to deliver preventative care and fluoride treatments where it matters most.
Untreated oral disease is not just about appearance. It causes serious systemic health problems, and it disproportionately affects people who cannot afford a dentist.
Edgar competes in the Miss World grand finale in Vietnam on September 5.
