By Belize Live News Staff: Community health work in Belize often happens without a base. A volunteer trains where they can, finds materials where they can, and figures out the rest.
That changes in Corozal.
The Corozal Wellness and Community Health Resource Center opened today, giving community health workers, volunteers, youth leaders and health professionals a dedicated space to access resources and build their skills.
UNICEF Belize joined the Government of Belize, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, HECOPAB and the Government of the Republic of Korea for the launch.
The value of a centre like this is practical. Community based health services reach households that clinics and hospitals often miss, particularly in rural areas, and the people delivering them need training and materials to do it well.
UNICEF Belize Representative Sajid Ali spoke about the role each person plays in making sure services reach where they are meant to go.
“Access to information is a right and not a privilege.”
