By Belize Live News Staff: Businesses and residents on the Placencia Peninsula should plan ahead for Sunday.
Belize Electricity Limited will cut power to the entire peninsula from 7am to 3pm on Sunday, August 30, along with a long list of communities across Stann Creek and Toledo.
That includes Placencia Village, Seine Bight, Maya Beach, Plantation, Forest Lagoon, Cocoplum and Surfside developments, plus Independence, Maya King, Santa Cruz, Georgetown, San Pablo, San Roman, Santa Rosa, Maya Mopan, Red Bank, Cow Pen, Monkey River, Bella Vista, San Isidro, Swasey, Bladen and Trio.
The entire Toledo District also loses power briefly that afternoon from 2:45pm to 3pm.
BEL says the work involves replacing utility poles, maintenance on the transmission system, and testing at the Independence and Punta Gorda substations.
Before that, on Thursday, August 27, the Hummingbird Highway corridor from Mile 23 to Mile 38 goes dark from 8am to 4:30pm.
Eight hours is a long time for resorts, restaurants and anyone with a freezer full of stock.
