By Belize Live News Staff: A group of cattle ranchers in the Belize River Valley spent time in a classroom this week learning something that starts under their feet.
The training in regenerative cattle production was held at the Belize Rural High School in Double Head Cabbage, facilitated by Mr. Daniel Juan.
The idea behind it is straightforward. Healthier soil grows better pasture. Better pasture feeds healthier cattle. Healthier cattle mean a stronger operation that can take a dry season or a bad year without falling apart.
Ranchers worked through practical grazing and pasture management strategies designed to lift productivity while building resilience to a changing climate.
There is a market angle too. Consumers overseas are increasingly asking how their beef was raised, and producers who can answer that question have an advantage.
The Belize District Department of Agriculture credited the Climate Resilient Agriculture Program, CRESAP, for supporting the training.
Would you pay more for beef raised this way?
