By Belize Live News Staff: The National Evangelical Association of Belize has issued a document called Kingdom Prevention Principles alongside its statement on the conviction of Pastor Victor Hernandez.
The association describes it as wisdom for leaders, and it is direct about the practical safeguards it recommends.
Among them, men should work with men and women with women, leaders should not minister to the opposite sex alone, and alone time with the opposite sex should be avoided, particularly where any attraction is felt.
The document also addresses what it calls the thought life, arguing that moral failure begins in the mind before it becomes action, and that spiritual death happens one compromise at a time. It encourages leaders to take a sabbatical or seek help rather than hide a struggle.
Accountability partners feature heavily. The guide argues that leaders need trusted people close enough to challenge them, and that accountability thousands of miles away is not really accountability.
NEAB is urging pastors and ministry leaders to examine their own structures and relationships.
“You have a target on your chest,” the association wrote, “and one on your back that you can’t see.”
What safeguards should churches have in place?
