Motorcycle stop turns into three charges for 19 year old rider

By Belize Live News Staff: A routine patrol on Farmer Express Road turned into three traffic charges for a 19 year old rider this month.

Police say the Quick Response Team was moving through the Cayo District around 5:55pm on Thursday, August 6, when officers spotted a woman on a black motorcycle riding without a helmet.

The missing helmet is what drew attention. What came next was more serious.

Officers signalled her to stop and she pulled over. When asked to produce a driver’s licence, she said she did not have one.

The motorcycle also turned out to be unlicensed and uninsured.

She was cautioned, arrested and taken to the Roaring Creek Police Station, where she was detained pending charges.

Alexsandra Yliana Escobar, a call centre agent of Valley of Peace Village, was served a summons to appear in court on August 20.

The charges are use of a motor vehicle not covered by third party risk insurance, use of an unlicensed motor vehicle, and driving without a valid Belize driver’s licence.

Are enough riders on our roads properly licensed and insured?
