By Belize Live News Staff: A crash on Otro Benque Road Sunday night left a pickup truck’s front wheel lying 25 feet away from the vehicle it came off.
Police say a black Mazda pickup was heading from Orange Walk Town toward San Lorenzo Housing Site around 7:45pm when it struck a parked Ford Escape in front of a lounge on the road.
The driver lost control after the impact and the pickup went into a wooden BEL lamp post, leaving it tilted. The truck itself took extensive damage down its front right and passenger side.
The parked Ford, registered to a 25 year old call centre agent, came out with a dented bumper, fender and a slightly bent wheel.
Nobody was hurt, which is the good news.
The rest of it is not. Police say they smelled alcohol on the pickup driver’s breath when they spoke to him at the scene. He was detained, taken to the Orange Walk Police Station and gave a urine sample.
Oswaldo Vasquez, 58, a technician of San Lorenzo Road, was charged with driving under the influence and driving without due care and attention. He was bailed at $600.
How much of this do we still see every weekend?
