Sunshine rules the weekend’s second half

Sunshine rules the weekend's second half

By Belize Live News Staff: Sunday arrived wearing exactly what Friday’s outlook promised: sunshine, a light breeze, and the kind of sky that makes the hammock look like destiny. Take it, Belize, because Monday has other plans.

The National Meteorological Service reports mainly fair conditions across the country, sunny with a few cloudy spells today and partly cloudy tonight. The shower map stays nearly empty, isolated at most, with just a low chance of a few visiting the south and some coastal areas around late morning or early afternoon. For the west road’s fire watchers after Saturday evening’s reported blaze near Mile 21, the sky offers no rain help today, so the caution through that stretch stays sensible.

The heat celebrates the clear skies at full August volume. Inland communities bake at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) before easing to 74 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast tops out at 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a low of 81 (27 Celsius), while the hills hold the comfortable ground at 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), cooling to 68 (20 Celsius).

The sea asks only modest respect, east to northeast winds of 5 to 15 knots, a choppy surface, and waves of 3 to 5 feet, fine water for the last cayes runs and river afternoons of the weekend.

The tropics stay on their best behaviour, no cyclone formation expected over the region in the next 48 hours, and the far Atlantic systems remain far, exactly where Belize likes them.

Then comes Monday’s turn. Clouds build through the day, showers and thunderstorms increase from late morning or afternoon, and by Monday night, periods of rain settle over most areas, with the coast first in line. Anyone bound for Tuesday’s demonstrations in Belmopan or Belize City should keep an eye on tomorrow’s bulletin, the marching forecast arrives with it.

So spend today the way it was built to be spent, Belize. The grill, the river, the sea, the shade tree, Sunday is handing out sunshine, and Monday intends to collect.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 6:34 AM and 6:44 PM, with highs at 12:29 PM and 12:36 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:35 AM and sets this evening at 6:17 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
