Small craft caution up as the tropical wave crosses Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: Right on cue, the midweek wave has made landfall on the forecast. Belize’s Wednesday brings showers and isolated thunderstorms to the southern and central belts, gustier seas that have the small craft caution flying, and the quiet promise that by tonight, the worst of it shrinks to a Toledo footnote.

The National Meteorological Service reports moist and unstable conditions as the wave moves through. The day runs sunny with cloudy spells before turning generally cloudy tonight, with the shower action concentrated over southern and central areas through the day, gradually easing, and tonight’s leftovers falling isolated, with a few extra visits for the Toledo District.

The water asks for the most respect. The small craft caution warns of gusty winds and locally rough seas near the heavy showers and thunderstorms, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, choppy seas, and waves running 3 to 5 feet. Small vessels should time their runs around the weather or let this one pass.

The silver lining rides in on the clouds: a small break from the heat. Inland areas top out at 93 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius), down from the recent 95s, before easing to 74 (23 Celsius). The coast reaches 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills enjoy the coolest day of the week at 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius), dipping to 68 (20 Celsius).

And the steady comfort beneath it all: no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the region over the next 48 hours. This is the season’s ordinary rhythm, a wave passing through, not a system building.

Thursday brings the settling, partly cloudy skies with isolated showers or thunderstorms, Toledo again collecting a few more after dark, as Belize returns to its sunny August baseline.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 9:16 AM and 8:31 PM, with highs at 3:11 PM and 2:42 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:33 AM and sets this evening at 6:23 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
