By Belize Live News Staff: Two babies in her arms. A knife in his hand. A bedroom wall at her back. What a Guinea Grass mother says she survived on Monday night is the reason domestic violence is never a private matter, and police are searching for the man she named.
The Belize Police Department reports that the 31-year-old woman was readying her children, just 2 and 1 years old, for bed at about 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, when her common-law husband of six years arrived appearing intoxicated, spat vulgar insults at her, and left when she refused to engage.
At about 7:00 p.m. he returned, highly drunk with a rum bottle in hand, and the night descended. From a chair near the bed came more insults and accusations about the children’s paternity. Then he stood, pointed, and delivered a threat she recounted to police word for word: he would chop her up and leave her body where no one would ever find her.
She tried to walk out with the babies. A punch to the head answered her, then roughly six slaps to the face as she held both children, leaving her dizzy, her vision blurred, her ear aching. When her crying 2-year-old toddled to touch his father’s leg, the man’s response, according to her report, was to threaten to kill her and both babies.
Then the kitchen trip. The return. Her shoulder pinned to the wall, a four-inch blade raised, and the words again: I will kill you. She could only bow her head over her children. He let go, killed the lights to leave her blind in the dark, and when her eyes adjusted, he lay stretched across the doorway, her exit sealed by his body.
She told police it was not the first time, that six years of his jealousy and violence had reached her limit, and she wants the court to act. A doctor has certified her injuries as harm, and the man is listed as wanted, with no names published here to protect the mother and her little ones.
Somewhere behind those village walls, a woman held her babies through the worst night of her life and still found the strength to walk into a police station and tell it all. That courage deserves an answer, from police, from the court, and from every neighbour who hears something and says something.
