He broke her phone for wanting to go home, police seek man

By Belize Live News Staff: The choice he gave her was simple and cruel: stay, or watch the phone die. A 21-year-old Guinea Grass mother chose to go home. The phone paid the price, and her face had already paid before it.

The Belize Police Department reports that the young woman was at her mother-in-law’s house on Sunday evening, July 19, 2026, with her common-law husband of two years. She started for home as the hour grew late, doubled back for a forgotten baby bag, and walked into an ambush at the doorway.

The man came out of the verandah hammock, she reported, shoved her hard into the wall, and followed with a punch from his left hand. It took his own mother, gripping her son and holding him back, to end the assault, a detail that says everything about how it looked to the one witness who loved them both.

The woman retreated inside while mother and son argued on the verandah. When she came back out and asked for her phone to leave, the ultimatum came: go home and the phone gets broken. She went. He broke it, a white Samsung A16 worth $435, screen destroyed, photographed by police as evidence of a threat kept.

She walked home to avoid worse, and later walked into a police station to ask for court action. A doctor has certified her injury as harm, and the man is listed as wanted, with no names published to protect the young mother.

It is the third domestic violence report to come out of Guinea Grass in a matter of weeks, a village pattern that deserves saying out loud, because silence is the soil this violence grows in.

To the young mothers reading this in a house that feels like hers did on Sunday: the report she made is the door out, and it is open to you too. Police and trusted support services are a call away. A phone can be replaced. You cannot.
