By Belize Live News Staff: A 27-year-old man is in stable condition at the Northern Regional Hospital after gunmen on a motorcycle pulled alongside the pickup he was riding in and opened fire, striking him three times, in a late-night attack on San Antonio Road in Orange Walk.
According to the Belize Police Department, information was received at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, that a man had arrived at the hospital with gunshot injuries. Police made contact with Bryan Diaz, a Belizean labourer of San Francisco Street, who had sustained two gunshot wounds to his upper back and one behind his neck.
Initial investigations revealed that at about 11:15 p.m., Diaz was the front seat passenger in a blue Ford F150 pickup travelling along San Antonio Road toward the stoplight on the Belize Corozal Road, with a businessman at the wheel. A motorcycle carrying two people came from behind, stopped at the front passenger window, and fired several shots in Diaz’s direction, hitting him. The driver sped off as the gunman continued shooting toward the fleeing vehicle.
At the scene, police and scenes of crime personnel collected a total of 14 expended 9mm shells as evidence. The pickup was processed and photographed, and a blood sample was collected. Diaz was issued medico-legal forms and remains admitted at the Northern Regional Hospital, listed in stable condition.
In connection with the investigation, police have detained a 39-year-old Orange Walk Town man, and a red and black motorcycle without a licence plate has been impounded. No charges have been laid at this time, and the identity of the detained man is being withheld pending charges.
