By Belize Live News Staff: A Saturday night at home turned ugly for a 17-year-old in San Pablo Village, who says a punch came flying at his face from the last person you would expect, a member of his own family.
The Belize Police Department reports that the teen, a construction worker of the Orange Walk District village, made his report at the Trial Farm Police Sub Station on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with his grandmother at his side.
He told police that the night before, around 8:00 p.m., he was walking out the back door of the family home toward the kitchen when a male relative charged at him and swung at his face. Quick reflexes saved him from the worst of it, the punch grazing his left cheek and causing pain. It took other relatives to pull the man away, and the teen said the lighting around the house left no doubt about who had attacked him. He asked police to take the matter to court.
Officers recorded his statement in his grandmother’s presence and detained a 47-year-old construction worker of the same village pending charges. By Sunday afternoon, the man had been formally arrested and charged with common assault.
In keeping with the protection afforded to minors, the accused is not being named, as identifying him would identify the teenage complainant through their family connection.
