By Belize Live News Staff: Put the umbrellas on standby rather than in hand, because Monday brings a much drier, sunnier picture to most of Belize, with only the south still in line for a proper soaking.
The National Meteorological Service reports that warm and relatively dry conditions will hold for most of today. Expect sunshine with a few cloudy spells and only isolated showers or thunderstorms, though the south sees activity pick up slightly this afternoon, and again tonight, when a few showers and thunderstorms linger mainly over southern areas.
Out on the water, the angry seas of the weekend have settled considerably. Winds blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots with moderate seas and waves of 4 to 6 feet, a clear step down from the small craft warning conditions of recent days, though prudent boaters will still mind the swells.
The heat makes its return with the sunshine. Inland areas top out at 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before falling to 73 (23 Celsius). The coast reaches 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a low of 81 (27 Celsius), while the hills stay cooler at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), dipping to 68 (20 Celsius).
In the tropics, the calm continues, with no tropical cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.
Tuesday turns cloudier, with some showers and thunderstorms expected mainly over central and southern areas before easing somewhat Tuesday night.
As for the tides, today’s highs fall at 8:22 AM and 10:17 PM, with lows at 4:04 PM and 2:50 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:25 AM and sets this evening at 6:31 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Derrick Rudon.
