By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) is deepening its ties with the local media, holding a Media Energy Workshop geared toward helping the public better understand the country’s energy sector.
The event took place at BEL’s Corporate Headquarters in Belize City, bringing the utility and members of the press together to discuss BEL’s vision for a secure, sustainable, and reliable energy future.
Leading the discussions were several of the company’s top officials. Mrs. Sheena Kuylen Simpson, General Manager, Energy Markets, Transmission and Interconnection, and Mrs. Dawn Sampson Nunez, General Manager, Employee and Corporate Services and Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary, joined Executive Chairman H.E. Ambassador Lynn Young in walking participants through key topics. These included the regulatory framework, an overview of the energy supply, and the Cost of Power Adjustment, or COPA mechanism.
The aim, BEL explained, was to give media professionals the technical grounding needed to report accurately on important and often complex energy matters. The company emphasised that the media serves as a crucial link in helping the public make sense of the energy landscape.
Looking ahead, BEL reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with the media and its wider network of stakeholders, as it continues its mission to deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to Belizeans.
