By Belize Live News Staff: A stash of suspected drugs, cleverly buried and disguised, has been uncovered by police during an operation in the Toledo District.
The Belize Police Department reports that on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, officers carried out an operation in Santa Cruz Village during the early morning hours, as part of efforts targeting firearms, ammunition, and drugs. As part of the exercise, police searched a residence in the village.
Nothing illegal was found inside the home. However, according to police, the search extended beyond the fence, where officers made an unexpected find. Buried in the dirt beneath a coconut stalk were three red and white glue containers. Upon opening them, police said two held a substance suspected to be crack, and the third contained a white powder believed to be cocaine.
The containers were transported to the Independence Police Station, where the suspected crack cocaine was weighed at 5.77 grams and the suspected cocaine at 3.0 grams. Both items were then sealed and labelled for evidence.
Police did not report any arrests in relation to the discovery. The suspected drugs were seized, and the matter is being looked into.
