BAHA is hiring an Import & Export Coordinator for Food Safety Services

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the vacant position of Import & Export Coordinator within its Food Safety Services.

The successful applicant will oversee the preparation, approval and issuance of import permits and export certificates for processed food commodities. The role also involves conducting import risk analyses for the evaluation and approval of foods entering the country, developing import conditions based on risk analysis principles, and monitoring how well imported foods comply with established conditions while recommending improvements to risk management.

Minimum qualifications and skills:
– A Master’s Degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, or Agriculture); or a Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, or Agriculture) with at least five years of job-related experience
– Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint, with sound knowledge of data management and analysis
– A valid Class “A” driver’s license

Key competencies:
– Ability to conduct food safety import risk analyses in keeping with Codex principles and to set appropriate import conditions for imported food commodities
– Capacity to carry out sanitary audits of foreign food and feed processing establishments and to evaluate HACCP plans
– Sound knowledge of GMP, HACCP and Good Importation Practices
– Strong grasp of the Codex Principles and Guidelines for Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification (CCFICS), along with a working knowledge of the WTO SPS Agreement
– Ability to write procedural manuals and guidelines related to the scope of work
– Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with strong public relations ability
– Capacity to properly organize and analyze data
– A highly committed and motivated team player

Salary: Under BAHA Pay Scale 18, the post starts at $31,189.22 with annual increments of $1,359.60, up to a maximum of $57,021.62.

Station of duty: Central Investigation Laboratory.
