By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Social Investment Fund is defending its procurement practices after social media allegations questioned how contracts are awarded under projects implemented by the organization.
BSIF, a statutory body responsible for implementing development projects across Belize, says its procurement systems operate under strict international standards and oversight mechanisms that leave little room for the type of misconduct alleged online.
The Fund explained that because many of its projects are financed through partnerships with multilateral development banks, procurement activities must comply with rigorous financial management, auditing, fiduciary, and accountability requirements.
According to BSIF, contracts exceeding established thresholds are subjected to open competitive tendering, allowing contractors to compete fairly for available opportunities. The organization stated that awards are made only after detailed evaluations and reviews are completed.
BSIF also highlighted the extensive oversight built into its procurement framework, including reviews by independent evaluation committees, internal management, external auditors, financing institutions, and development partners.
The statement comes amid growing public discussion surrounding government contracts and procurement practices. While BSIF did not identify the specific social media post that prompted the response, it said the allegations being circulated were unsubstantiated and had the potential to undermine confidence among contractors, beneficiaries, development partners, and the wider public.
The organization says it remains committed to transparency and accountability while continuing to deliver development projects throughout Belize.
