By Belize Live News Staff: A wetter weather pattern is settling over Belize as forecasters predict an increase in showers and thunderstorms across much of the country tonight.
According to the National Meteorological Service, relatively unstable atmospheric conditions are combining with abundant moisture to create favorable conditions for rainfall development.
While today’s showers are expected to remain concentrated mainly over inland areas, the forecast indicates that rainfall activity will become more widespread after sunset.
Central and northern districts are expected to experience the greatest increase in showers and thunderstorms overnight, with some areas potentially receiving significant rainfall accumulations.
The unsettled pattern is expected to continue into Thursday, when mostly cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorms are forecast around the country, especially over northern Belize.
Although a slight decrease in rainfall activity is expected by Thursday night, forecasters say some showers and thunderstorms will likely continue affecting central and northern communities.
Marine conditions remain moderate, with east-southeasterly winds between 10 and 20 knots and wave heights of four to six feet.
With the Excessive Rainfall Watch still active, Belizeans living in low-lying or flood-prone areas are encouraged to stay informed and prepare for possible periods of heavy rain over the next two days.
