Police investigating fatal ATV collision that killed Georgeville resident

By Belize Live News Staff: Police are continuing investigations into a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a young Georgeville resident over the weekend.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Thomas Lester Martinez, who was traveling on an ATV along the George Price Highway when the deadly collision occurred.

Preliminary information suggests that Martinez was heading toward Georgeville from Esperanza Village when his ATV was struck from behind by a vehicle.

The impact reportedly threw Martinez from the ATV and into a nearby drain where he was found seriously injured.

Emergency responders transported him to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, but despite efforts to save his life, he later died from his injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the other vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Hai Ming Chen, cooperated with investigators. Love News reports that Chen provided a blood sample for analysis and was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution as police continue examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The fatality adds to Belize’s growing list of road traffic deaths and serves as another reminder of the dangers facing motorists and ATV operators on the nation’s highways.

Police have not yet announced whether charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
