By Belize Live News Staff: There was panic in Corozal Town yesterday afternoon after a live hand grenade was discovered on C Street, prompting an emergency response from authorities.
BLN has confirmed that the Belize Defence Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was deployed to the area after reports of the dangerous device surfaced.
Authorities say the team successfully retrieved an M67 fragmentation grenade, a military-style explosive commonly associated with American armed forces.
While details surrounding how the grenade ended up in the area remain unclear, officials say investigations are ongoing. The discovery caused concern among residents as bomb disposal personnel secured the area and carried out the operation.
The M67 grenade has reportedly been found in the possession of criminals in Belize on previous occasions, raising further concerns about illegal weapons circulating in the country.
