Driver accused of DUI after hitting parked police mobile in Orange Walk

By  Belize Live News Staff: Orange Walk police have detained 43-year-old Geovanni Javier Chin, a laborer of Santa Elena Street, Orange Walk Town, following a minor traffic accident early Friday morning.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Belize Corozal Road in front of the Shell Gas Station.

According to investigators, Chin allegedly reversed his Buick Encore SUV and scraped the bumper of a parked police mobile pickup.

During the investigation, officers reported detecting the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

Police obtained video footage from a nearby business which reportedly showed the events leading to the collision.

Chin was later escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station where he provided a urine sample as part of the investigation.

He has been detained pending charges of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of drinks or drugs and driving without due care and attention.

Police say the matter remains under investigation.
