By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) is mourning the loss of one of its soldiers, Private Raheed Flowers, who was fatally stabbed earlier this week in Belize City.
Flowers, 29, had served eight years in the BDF and was known not only as a dedicated soldier but also as a talented musician in the BDF Marching Band, where he played the trombone.
Police say the stabbing occurred Monday night on Gladden Street after Flowers became involved in a confrontation while socializing near the home of a relative. During the altercation, he sustained stab wounds and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
According to police, investigators believe alcohol may have been involved in the incident. Authorities are currently reviewing video footage in the area and have identified a suspect, though no arrests have been made so far.
Those who worked closely with Flowers described him as a disciplined soldier who balanced military duty with a passion for music.
Beyond his service in the military band, Flowers was also known as a devoted father to his three sons, a role that friends and colleagues say meant everything to him.
The Belize Defence Force has confirmed that Flowers is expected to receive a military funeral in honor of his service to the country.
