Trial Farm driver charged after police find faulty lights and expired insurance

By Belize Live News Staff: A Trial Farm Village resident has been charged with several traffic offenses after police stopped his vehicle during a patrol Monday night.

Reports indicate that around 7:30 p.m. on March 9, 2026, a police corporal conducting mobile patrol on Hummingbird Street in Trial Farm Village noticed a gold 2009 Hyundai Elantra traveling without its left front headlamp illuminated.

Police signaled the driver to stop, and he complied. The driver was identified as Romel Kenneth Mendez, 43, a graphic designer of the Pukte Ville area in Trial Farm Village.

Further checks revealed that both the left front and left rear lights were not functioning, and the vehicle’s insurance disk had expired on March 6, 2026.

The driver and the vehicle were escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station, where the car was impounded.

Mendez was later formally arrested and charged for driving without third-party risk insurance, driving without a left front lamp lighted, and driving without a left rear lamp lighted.
