Detainee escapes from Orange Walk Police Station

Police de-escalate family property standoff in Guinea Grass Village

By Belize Live News Staff: Orange Walk Town, Belize — Police have launched a manhunt after a detainee escaped from lawful custody early Friday morning.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m. on February 27, 2026, officers were allowing detained individuals to shower when the detainee requested to bathe. Instead, police say he ran upstairs toward the traffic office, climbed onto the rooftop, jumped down onto a pile of sand, and fled in a northern direction.

An officer attempted to pursue him but was unsuccessful. Police searched surrounding areas but were unable to locate him.

The man had been detained in connection with a damage to property report and is now wanted for escape from lawful custody. Investigations continue.
