U.S. authorities detain Belizean linked in online reports to cartel

By Belize Live News Staff: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained Belizean national Benigno Loria in Houston, according to confirmation from Belize’s Commissioner of Police.

The 33-year-old has been the subject of online allegations suggesting ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. However, those claims remain unconfirmed by Belizean officials.

Loria had previously made headlines in 2023 after an attempt was made on his life during a shooting at the Pueblo Viejo ferry in Corozal. That incident left one man dead and was described at the time as drug-related.

Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs say they have not yet received any Interpol notice in connection with the case.

Further updates are expected as authorities gather more information.
