By Belize Live News Staff: Two teenagers have been charged following a shooting robbery that left a security guard injured and two firearms stolen.
Police say the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at JL’s Quick Loan on Cleghorn Street in Belize City. Officers on patrol along Youth for the Future Drive reported hearing gunshots and were simultaneously alerted that a man had been shot.
Police responded immediately and observed two male suspects fleeing from the direction of North Front Street over the Belchina Bridge. Both were pursued.
One suspect was tracked down in the vicinity of West Collet Canal and was seen throwing a firearm. The other, a 16-year-old minor, was also apprehended and found in possession of a firearm.
Investigations revealed that two men allegedly entered the establishment, fired several shots, injured a security guard, and fled with two company-issued firearms. Police confirmed that the recovered weapons belonged to the security company.
Kriston Kareef Fernandez, 18, and the 16-year-old minor have been charged with keeping a firearm and ammunition without a license. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Both have also been arraigned for attempted murder.
