Two men shot dead in Punta Gorda Town

By Belize Live News Staff: Punta Gorda Town was rocked by violence last night after two men were fatally shot at a residence on Queen Street in what police believe may be a drug-related incident.

Police say they received reports of gunshots fired around 8:05 p.m. Upon responding, officers found 24-year-old Luis Barillas lying face down in a pool of blood in the yard of the residence. He was rushed to the Punta Gorda Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Barillas sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, including two shots to the left cheek and one to the left side of his temple.

At the hospital, police encountered a second victim, later identified as 27-year-old Derick Arnold, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper chest, thigh, and upper back. Despite medical efforts, Arnold was declared dead on arrival.

Police say scene of crime personnel recovered nine expended shell casings from the scene. No arrests have been made as investigations continue.
