Belize City nurse reports Facebook TV scam after payment sent

By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a report of online fraud after a Belize City nurse said she paid for a television advertised on Facebook but never received the item.

On Saturday, January 31st, 2026, at about 6:47 p.m., the woman visited the Precinct Three Crimes Investigation Branch Office and reported the incident.

She said that while browsing Facebook she came across an account called “Electronica Belize” advertising a Smart 32-inch TV for $185 Belize. After communicating with the account holder via Facebook Messenger, she agreed to purchase the TV and pay an additional $18 Belize for shipping.

Police were told the buyer was provided an Atlantic Bank account (2120045246) belonging to Karen Renee Lopez, and was informed the TV would be delivered once payment was deposited.

The woman reported that on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, around 12:45 p.m., she visited Atlantic Bank on Freetown Road and deposited $203 Belize into the account.

Up to the time of making the report, she said she had not received the TV or her money back and the seller stopped communicating.
