Highway enforcement focuses on unlicensed drivers and motorcycle safety

By Belize Live News Staff: Traffic enforcement efforts intensified in the south as police and transport officials carried out a coordinated highway patrol on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The operation, led by the Punta Gorda Road Policing Unit in collaboration with DOT Wardens, focused on driver compliance, insurance verification, and motorcycle safety along routes connecting Punta Gorda Town, Columbia, Silver Creek, and San Miguel villages.

Several traffic violations were recorded during the patrol, particularly involving motorists operating vehicles without proper documentation and motorcyclists failing to wear protective helmets.

Those cited included Wilfred Teul, Staffard Jones, and Thomas Tush, each receiving tickets for various offenses such as unlicensed driving, lack of insurance, using unlicensed vehicles, and failure to wear protective helmets.

Another individual, Kerlin Moriera, was issued a warning and informed of a possible summons in relation to traffic violations.

Authorities indicated that no confrontations occurred during the operation and emphasized that continued patrols are necessary to reduce traffic accidents and promote responsible road use throughout the region.
