Disputed land transfer sparks family conflict in Belize City

By  Belize Live News Staff: A dispute over ancestral land in Belize City has left a family emotionally shaken after the government allegedly transferred ownership of shared property to a single sibling without informing or consulting the others.

The property has historically been occupied by several sisters who say they built and maintained their homes there through personal financial investment and long-term residence.

Family members claim that in May 2023, the land was transferred solely to one sibling living abroad, despite the continued occupation of other heirs. They allege the process occurred rapidly and without their consent.

Since the transfer, relatives report increased conflict, verbal disputes, and restricted access to the land. Of particular concern, the family says one sister has been prevented from freely accessing her own home, despite residing there long before the ownership change.

The family says they are not seeking confrontation but want the public to be aware of how ancestral land can be transferred without full disclosure. They are now appealing for investigation, fairness, and accountability, stating they are prepared to provide documentation and firsthand testimony.
