By  Belize Live News Staff: An 18-year-old laborer has been detained after police discovered suspected cannabis during a late-night patrol in Orange Walk Town.

Police report that around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2026, officers conducting patrols along Cardinal Street stopped and searched a group of individuals. During the search of a white and black Jordan-branded bag, officers found a transparent plastic bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis.

The individual was escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station, where he was identified as Ayden Perez, an 18-year-old laborer of Mammey Street, Trial Farm Village.

Police say Perez was informed of his constitutional rights and signed the required custody and acknowledgment forms. The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 117 grams. The substance was sealed, labeled, and handed over to the exhibit keeper.
