By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old Shackkeem Ferguson, a Belizean laborer of Joe Lewis Street, Ladyville Village.
According to police, around 5:32 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, reports were received of shots fired on Joe Lewis Street. Officers from the Ladyville Criminal Investigations Branch and uniform personnel responded and discovered Ferguson lying motionless on the roadside with multiple gunshot injuries.
Initial investigations revealed that Ferguson had left his home earlier that afternoon on a bicycle. Around 5:30 p.m., while heading back home, occupants of an SUV opened fire on him. Witnesses reported seeing two SUVs fleeing the area in the direction of Perez Road shortly after the shooting.
Ferguson was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m. by medical personnel.
Scenes of Crime technicians processed the scene and recovered several expended shells, collected blood samples, and reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby residence, which police say yielded useful information. His body remains at the KHMH morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues.
