Construction worker shot dead in Ladyville Sunday evening

By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating the murder of 29-year-old Elroy Bainton, a Belizean construction worker of Yellow Tail Street, Ladyville Village, who was shot and killed on Sunday evening.

According to police, around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, information was received of shots fired on Yellow Tail Street. Officers from the Ladyville Criminal Investigations Branch, along with relief and Special Branch personnel, responded to the area near the Jew Apartment Complex.

Upon arrival, police were informed that Bainton had already been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital by police after sustaining gunshot injuries.

Initial investigations revealed that Bainton was standing on the street in front of the apartment complex when a male assailant with his face covered approached and opened fire, shooting him multiple times. After being shot, Bainton reportedly ran into the yard of the apartment complex, jumped a fence, and collapsed beneath a green wooden structure adjacent to the building.

Despite efforts to save his life, Bainton was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. by Dr. Siu at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Scenes of Crime personnel processed the scene and recovered several expended shells and one 9mm live round, along with blood samples. Police canvassed the area and spoke with several individuals, but no useful information was obtained at the time.

Bainton’s body remains at the KHMH morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination. No arrests have been made, and the matter remains under investigation.
