Cocaine seized in nightclub arrest goes missing inside police station

By Belize Live News Staff: Police have launched an internal investigation after cocaine seized during a nightclub arrest was later recovered from a police officer inside a police station, raising serious concerns about evidence handling and accountability.

The incident surfaced on January 26, 2026, when officers attempted to retrieve an exhibit linked to the arrest of Henry Abimael Mojica, who had been detained on January 18, 2026 after allegedly being found with 17 grams of cocaine while entering a nightclub.

When the exhibit could not be located, police initiated a review of internal surveillance footage within the station. That review reportedly led investigators to a uniformed officer who was on duty at the time.

A search was conducted, during which the missing cocaine was recovered, police confirmed.

The discovery has triggered an internal probe into the chain of custody, exhibit management procedures, and whether any criminal or disciplinary action will follow.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether charges will be laid, stating only that the investigation remains ongoing.
