Rider charged after being stopped without lights or helmet

By Belize Live News Staff: Dangriga police have charged a motorcyclist following a traffic stop conducted during a mobile patrol in the town earlier this week.

According to police, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, while conducting mobile patrol along George Price Drive, officers observed a motorcycle traveling in the same direction without any lights and with the rider not wearing a helmet. The motorcycle was stopped, and the rider was asked to produce his driver’s license, insurance, and license sticker.

Police report that the rider admitted he did not possess a valid Belize driver’s license and that the motorcycle’s insurance and license sticker had expired. He was informed of the offences and subsequently arrested.

The rider, identified as Iverson Ismael Verula, 22, of Spanish Town, Dangriga, was formally charged with driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, using a motor vehicle not covered by third-party risk insurance, and driving an unlicensed motor vehicle.
