Thirteen live rounds of .40mm ammo recovered in Cayo police operation

By Belize Live News Staff: A joint operation involving police and customs officers has resulted in the arrest and charging of two Guatemalan nationals for possession of prohibited ammunition in the Cayo District.

Police Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith said the arrests followed a search carried out by members of the Mobile Interdiction Unit on Friday, January 9, 2026. The operation took place along Hydro Road after customs officers signaled for assistance while tracking a black Toyota Hilux.

Once intercepted, MIU officers conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly found 14 live rounds of .40mm ammunition. The occupants of the pickup were identified as Nestor Galdamez and Edwardo Galdamez, both Guatemalan nationals.

Both men were formally arrested and charged for the offence of kept prohibited ammunition. Police have not indicated whether additional charges may follow as investigations continue.
