Murder of chicken truck driver sees second arrest

By  Belize Live News Staff: The murder investigation into the killing of chicken truck driver Mark Anthony Gabourel has intensified with the arrest and charging of a second suspect.

Police confirmed that Shaylon Melvin Santos, 29, was formally arrested and charged for murder on January 13, 2026. Santos, a construction worker from Teakettle Village, now joins another suspect previously detained in connection with the case.

Gabourel was killed on January 7, 2026, in an incident that raised serious concerns about violence against working Belizeans. His death prompted widespread public outrage and renewed calls for justice.

Police say their investigation is progressing and that additional evidence continues to be reviewed. Authorities have indicated that more details will be shared as the case moves through the judicial system.

Santos is expected to be arraigned in court as legal proceedings move forward.
