By Belize Live News Staff: A routine traffic stop on Guinea Grass Road led to the seizure of live shotgun ammunition and the detention of a local resident.
Police report that while on mobile patrol Thursday afternoon, officers stopped a motorcyclist who was riding without a helmet. A search of the rider revealed two 12-gauge shotgun shells in his possession.
The rider reportedly told police that he did not have a gun license authorizing him to possess ammunition. He was immediately informed of the offence and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station.
At the station, the ammunition was properly labeled, sealed, and deposited as exhibits through the chain-of-custody process. Police say the man declined to sign documentation related to the seizure.
The suspect remains detained as police continue investigations and prepare formal charges.
