By Belize Live News Staff: Police and fire personnel are investigating a house fire that caused damage to a zinc structure in Belama Phase Four on Sunday night.
According to police, information was received around 9:12 p.m. of a house on fire in the area. Officers responding to the scene observed an elevated, unpainted zinc house measuring approximately twenty by twenty feet that had sustained fire damage.
The owner, a 32-year-old man, reported that the house had been locked and secured several days prior. He said he was alerted to the fire by a neighbor shortly after 9:00 p.m. and later discovered flames inside the structure.
Fire personnel responded and were able to extinguish the blaze. Police say the value of the damage has not yet been determined, and the house and its contents were not insured.
The matter remains under investigation.
