By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Ladyville are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred during the early hours of the morning in Lords Bank Village.
Officials responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 1:40 a.m. at a residence located within the BDF housing area. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of a man lying on a sponge just outside the side entrance of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound.
The deceased was identified as 57-year-old Phillip Nicholas, a Belizean handyman. Investigators were informed by his wife, Zelma Nicholas, that the family had been asleep inside their two-bedroom zinc structure when the incident occurred.
According to her account, the side door of the house was open when two masked individuals climbed the steps and fired multiple shots into the residence. One bullet reportedly struck Phillip Nicholas in the head, resulting in fatal injuries. The attackers then escaped from the area.
Police processed the scene and recovered several expended shells. No suspects have been detained as investigations continue.
