Report claims Venezuelan leader taken into U.S. custody

Regional tensions rise following U.S. claim of Maduro’s removal

By Belize Live News Staff: Reports from Washington suggest that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will face criminal charges in the United States following what a U.S. senator describes as his arrest by American personnel.

Senator Mike Lee said he was briefed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who reportedly confirmed that Maduro is now in U.S. custody and is expected to stand trial on criminal charges. Lee stated that the military activity observed was intended to safeguard U.S. personnel involved in carrying out the arrest warrant.

Lee also quoted Rubio as saying that U.S. officials do not anticipate further military or enforcement action in Venezuela following the reported detention.

At this time, U.S. government agencies have not publicly verified the claims, and Venezuelan officials have not issued a response.

International observers are closely monitoring the situation, which — if confirmed — could significantly reshape diplomatic, legal, and geopolitical dynamics in the region.
