By Belize Live News Staff: A 23-year-old mother of two from Billy White Village lost her life following a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred Wednesday morning in Santa Familia Village.
Police say that around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were alerted to the body of a female person found unresponsive along a roadway. Upon arrival, police observed the motionless body of the woman along with a Lifan brand motorcycle a short distance away from the scene.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, initial investigations revealed that the victim sustained injuries to the right side of her face, and the motorcycle showed damage to the front portion. Police noted that there was no helmet found at the immediate scene, and investigations are continuing to determine whether one was being worn at the time of the accident.
Family members later confirmed that the deceased had been traveling from San Ignacio when the incident occurred. Relatives told news reporters that she customarily wore a helmet, though it may have been displaced during the crash.
The deceased leaves behind two young children, who will now face the new year without their mother.
Police say there is currently no clarity as to what the motorcycle crashed into, and the matter remains under investigation.
