By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Electricity Limited says it is reaffirming its commitment to safe, reliable, and sustainable energy services following the approval of new electricity rates by the Public Utilities Commission.
The PUC’s final decision, issued on December 30, 2025, approved a rate increase that BEL says will help address ongoing financial pressures related to power generation and supply. While the approved increase is lower than what the company requested, BEL says it will continue working to strengthen system resilience and service quality.
The utility has emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of lower-cost energy sources, including utility-scale renewable energy projects, battery storage solutions, and distributed energy resources such as rooftop solar systems.
BEL is also calling for closer collaboration with the PUC and the Government of Belize to modernize the electricity grid and introduce more cost-reflective tariffs that better align with real-time energy costs.
The company says these measures are necessary to stabilize electricity costs over time while ensuring the national power system remains capable of supporting economic growth.
