New Year’s Day struggle: Woman fights off armed intruders

By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred on University Drive, Belize City, on Monday, December 29th, 2025, at approximately 2:50 p.m.

According to police reports, information was received via the Police Control Room, prompting personnel attached to the Northside Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) to visit the scene. Upon arrival, officers met and spoke with a 22-year-old Belizean nurse of University Drive.

The woman reported that while walking home, she was approached by two male persons of dark complexion, both slim-built and tall. She stated that both men were shirtless and wearing three-quarter pants, with one having a red shirt over his head and the other a black shirt over his head.

The suspect wearing the red shirt reportedly brandished a black object resembling a firearm and demanded that the woman hand over her bag. She refused, at which point the suspect struck her to the head, causing her to fall to the ground. A struggle ensued over the bag, and the woman began shouting for help.

The suspects then released the bag and made their escape in the direction of Graduate Crescent. No property was stolen.

A medico-legal form was issued, a statement was recorded, and investigations continue. Police have not identified any suspects at this time.
