The Belize Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that left one man dead in the Toledo District. The victim has been identified as Archibald Ferril, a 25-year-old resident of Bella Vista village.
Police Press Officer, ASP Stacy Smith, briefed the media on the findings of the ongoing investigation. “Ferril was walking on an unarmed street in that village when he was fatally shot by an unknown male person,” Smith stated. She further explained that while the investigation is still in its early stages, police intelligence points toward a “probable motive” involving the local drug trade.
Addressing the broader issue of safety in the region, ASP Smith acknowledged an influx of crime over the past several months. To combat this, the police administration is deploying more resources to the area. “We have made some administrative changes as it relates to the personnel in terms of putting more operational as well as intelligence persons there,” Smith said, emphasizing that law enforcement is determined to curb the violence suggested to be driven by the sale of drugs in the community.
