Two men charged after store owner beaten and building set on fire in San Pedro

By Belize Live News Staff: Police have formally charged two men following a violent attack on a business owner and the burning of a commercial building in San Pedro Town.

According to police, a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were arrested and jointly charged with attempted murder following investigations into an incident that occurred on Sunday, 17th December 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Laguna Drive, San Pedro.

Initial investigations revealed that the two men entered a business establishment where they allegedly beat and stabbed the store owner. Police say the suspects then started a fire inside the building before making good their escape.

Authorities were alerted after residents in the area reported seeing smoke coming from the building. Police and fire department personnel responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze. The injured store owner was transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic for treatment.

Police say surveillance footage from the establishment played a key role in identifying the suspects. Although the suspects reportedly removed the DVR in an attempt to conceal evidence, the camera system was not damaged, and footage was successfully retrieved.

Both suspects were later apprehended in separate locations. The injured store owner underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition. Police say additional charges are expected as investigations continue.
