By Belize Live News Staff: Police have arrested and charged a Chinese businessman following a shooting incident in Caye Caulker earlier this month.
Authorities say that on Wednesday, 17th December 2025, a 45-year-old man was formally arrested and charged with use of deadly means of harm and wounding in connection with a shooting that occurred on Monday, 15th December 2025.
Investigations revealed that the incident happened around 1:15 p.m. at a hotel located on Pescador Street in Caye Caulker. Police allege that the accused produced a licensed firearm and fired a single shot at another male person, injuring him in the leg.
The injured man was escorted to the hospital for treatment, where his injury was classified as wounding. Police later detained and charged the accused.
Police investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute involving the injured man and the accused’s former partner. Authorities have confirmed that the incident occurred in Caye Caulker and not San Pedro.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
