By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize has issued a memorandum reinforcing strict guidelines on the use of government-owned vehicles, warning against abuse and improper use.
The memorandum, dated December 11, 2025, was issued by the Assets and Utilities Management Unit to chief executive officers, heads of departments, and finance officers. It emphasizes that government vehicles are not personal vehicles and are assigned strictly for official duties in service to the citizens of Belize.
Among the key reminders outlined is that all government vehicles, except those authorized for 24-hour use, must be garaged at secure designated locations at the end of each day, including weekends and public or bank holidays. Operators are also reminded that traffic laws must be obeyed at all times, and idling vehicles with air conditioning running is discouraged.
The memo further states that government vehicles are not permitted at Christmas parties or events where alcohol is consumed, and unauthorized passengers are not allowed in government vehicles.
The Assets and Utilities Management Unit, assisted by the Transport and Police Departments, will conduct random checkpoints to ensure compliance. The memo clearly states that no requests to derail this process will be entertained.
